Julie Schell is an accomplished aviation safety executive with over 20 years of experience in the transportation industry. She currently serves as the Vice President of Safety and Regulatory Compliance at Piedmont Airlines, where she leads a team of safety professionals dedicated to implementing and improving the company’s Safety Management System (SMS). As a key member of the airline’s executive team, she plays a critical role in strategic decision-making, regulatory compliance, and risk management. Julie served as the Chair of the Regional Airline Association’s (RAA) Safety Council, collaborating with industry partners and regulatory agencies to enhance aviation safety standards.
Julie holds a master’s degree in Aeronautical Science with a Safety Concentration from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and a private pilot certificate. Throughout her career, she has been instrumental in developing safety programs, leading accident investigations, and ensuring compliance with regulatory agencies’ requirements. Her expertise extends to emergency response planning, safety audits, and data-driven risk mitigation strategies.
