How to Apply

Scholarship Application Requirements

On behalf of our scholarship funders, the 2024 scholarships were awarded at our annual conference in Orlando in March 2024.

Applications for the 2025 scholarships will open in August 2024. You must be a current member of Women in Aviation International by October 1, 2024, and your membership must not expire before March 2025. You may apply for up to three scholarships.

You can read the WAI2024 scholarship descriptions here

Scholarships applications are only accepted through the WAI website via the new online portal.  Please note the scholarship portal is independent of our website, i.e., if you are signed into the WAI website with your membership information, you will still need to register on the application portal to apply.

Once your application has been submitted, changes cannot be made to your application. All applicants must submit the following:

  • Two (one-page) letters of recommendation—letters may not be from family members
  • One 500-word essay focused on why a scholarship will help you achieve your goals
  •  Resume (no more than two pages)
  • If applying for a flight training scholarship, please include copies of your aviation and medical certificates and the last three pages of your pilot logbook
  • Other information if requested for each specific award/grant/scholarship

These requirements are the minimum for all scholarships unless otherwise indicated.  Please read the description thoroughly to make sure you meet all requirements.

Your essay should include the following:

  • your name and contact information
  • how a WAI scholarship will help you achieve your goals
  • other information as requested for each specific award/grant/scholarship

Resumes should include the following:

  • work history or school studies
  • any educational awards or honors
  • demonstrated involvement in aviation-related activities
  • certificates already obtained, date, and flight hours completed (if applicable)

Unless a scholarship description indicates that is is only available to U.S. residents, international WAI members may apply if they meet all other requirements.
