Girls In Aviation Day FAQs

For Families and Attendees (Youth Ages 8–18)

About the Event

Girls in Aviation Day (GIAD) is a free, annual international event hosted by Women in Aviation International (WAI) chapters and corporate members. It is designed to introduce youth ages 8–18 to exciting careers in aviation and aerospace through hands-on activities, role models, and STEAM fun.

GIAD 2026 takes place on Saturday, September 19, 2026. GIAD takes place on the third Saturday in September each year. Events are hosted by local WAI chapters and corporate members around the world — visit WAI.org/giad to find an event near you.

Girls in Aviation Day is a free event for all attendees. Some events may have optional merchandise available for purchase, but attendance itself is always free.

GIAD is open to youth ages 8–18 and their chaperones. All are welcome — the event celebrates aviation as a field open to everyone, regardless of gender.

Attending the Event

Registration requirements vary by event host. Check the specific event details to see if pre-registration is required. If registering online, you will be asked to complete a Photo Permission and Liability Waiver on behalf of your child.

Yes — all youth must be accompanied by an adult chaperone who is responsible for their safety and security throughout the event. Parents, troop leaders, and teachers are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Activities vary, but often include hands-on STEAM stations, aircraft walk-arounds, flight simulators, career panels with women in aviation, and GIAD Activity Kits with free resources while supplies last. It is a full day of learning and inspiration!

If you do not get a GIAD Activity Kit at your local event, families can purchase kits at wai-store.org for $15. GIAD kits include a pink drawstring backpack filled with STEAM resources, including an Aviation for Girls magazine, a sectional chart, a bandana, stickers, a temporary tattoo, and a career guide.

After the Event

Encourage your child to download the free Aviation for Girls app, available year-round with age-appropriate content including STEM activities, e-learning videos, scholarship info, and a digital magazine. High school students can join WAI at $29 per year as a student member and youth ages 5–15 can join WAI as a free Junior Member at WAI.org/membership-information.
