Scholarship awards are a major benefit of membership in Women in Aviation International. In the past 20 years, WAI has disbursed more than $10 million to its members to help them reach their goals and advance into the aviation and aerospace careers they have always dreamed about. The 2018 scholarship program will begin in July and run through November 13, 2017. Applicants must be a member of Women in Aviation International by November 1, 2017, and may apply for no more than three scholarships. Internships are not included in the three per member scholarship limit.

Ace Aerobatic School is offering its spin training course for a pilot who wishes to enhance her skills and résumé. In your essay, share your aviation background, your plan for the future, and how spin training can help with your goals. This scholarship is open to anyone with at least a student pilot certificate. For the aspiring flight instructor with at least a commercial certificate and training toward to the CFI certificate, the course can include a sign-off for the CFI certificate.

The International Society of Woman Airline Pilots (ISA+21) offers scholarships to promote the advancement of women in the world’s airline flight decks. ISA+21 will award two B737 or A320 type ratings valued at $10,000 each. The successful candidates will train for eight days with Flight Training International in Miami. Funds will be paid directly to the flight school and training must be completed within 18 months. One letter of recommendation must be from a pilot who has flown with you.

Air Wisconsin Airlines will award four Airline Transport Pilot certificate training program (ATP CTP) scholarships to qualified members of WAI. The 12-day training program will be held in Appleton, Wisconsin, and at an Air Wisconsin simulator facility with lodging and transportation provided. Applicants must have commercial, instrument, and multiengine certificates, enrolled or a graduate of a four-year college aviation program or professional pilot training program, and minimum age of 18. Training must be scheduled to commence no later than one year from award.

The High Flight Aviation Scholarship was founded in memory of aviation legend Ed Bowlin. Prior to his passing, Ed and his wife, Connie, were known for helping people achieve their flying goals. This scholarship is intended to make a difference in someone's life (student or non-student) who is pursuing their aviation dream. Funds may be used toward obtaining a private pilot certificate or other ratings.

The WAI Oshkosh Chapter Spirit of Flight Scholarship is open to women of all ages who have already soloed and are working on their recreational, sport pilot, private pilot, or commercial certificate; instrument or multiengine rating; or CFI. Preference will be given to Wisconsin residents, but all members who qualify are encouraged to apply. Funds will be paid to the flight school of your choice.

American Airlines will award a $5K educational scholarship to a qualified member of Women in Aviation.

To be eligible for the American Airlines scholarship, an individual must

  • Be enrolled in  either a 4-year U.S. accredited college or university or civilian flight training school
  • Seeking to develop skills that will lead to a career as a professional airline pilot
  • Be at least 18 years of age at the date of application
  • Have earned at minimum a private pilot certificate

The Anne Bridge Baddour Aviation Scholarship will be awarded to a female pilot with the following accomplishments: Must be a U. S. citizen, have a burning desire to become a professional pilot, have at least a private pilot certificate with 150 hours' flying time, and be on track toward the ATP rating. This award will be used to further her aims toward an instrument rating, multiengine rating, or ATP.

Jeppesen's commitment to general aviation includes a pilot flight training scholarship for an individual working toward a private, recreational, or sport pilot certificate or instrument rating. Funds will be paid directly to your flight school and training is to be completed within one year. The recipient will be chosen based on passion for flying, commitment to completing flight training, and two reference letters highlighting the applicant's character qualities.

The Wings Over 35 Scholarship is designed to promote general aviation among women or men over the age of 35 and aid a deserving person to attain certification as a private pilot. In addition to WAI requirements the applicant must be over the age of 35, not hold a private pilot certificate, have a desire to pursue higher ratings, have a financial need, and hold a third-class medical. Applicants must explain their goals in aviation and what they have done thus far toward attaining that goal.
