Scholarships

Scholarship awards are a major benefit of membership in Women in Aviation International. In the past 20 years, WAI has disbursed more than $10 million to its members to help them reach their goals and advance into the aviation and aerospace careers they have always dreamed about. Thanks to our generous sponsors, there is truly something for every interest.

To apply, you must be a member of Women in Aviation International. Current members can verify their membership status at any time by logging into the members only section or calling 937-839-4647.

All scholarships, unless otherwise noted, are awarded at the annual International Women in Aviation Conference at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort March 2-4, 2017 in Lake Buena Vista, Florida.

New This Year: All scholarships may be applied for electronically through the WAI website. Please submit your application only once you have all of the necessary files ready.

Should you wish to print out the application form and submit your application on paper, all application materials can be submitted in the same envelope.

Scholarship applications must be submitted or postmarked by November 14, 2016. Scholarship application materials may be mailed to WAI Scholarships, 3647 State Route 503 South, West Alexandria, OH 45381.

FedEx Express is accepting applications from qualified aviation schools, universities, museums, and other aviation education organizations for a JT8 engine with stand from the company’s retiring fleet.

To be considered for this donation, please submit a detailed summary of your organization, including information about your program, how the engine would enhance your program, and any joint use opportunities with other area programs to increase the use of the asset.

Aviation Maintenance Scholarships

Delta Air Lines would like to extend a 2017 summer internship (13 weeks) opportunity to a student currently enrolled in a baccalaureate degree in business management or industrial engineering. In addition to an internship position, the recipient will receive a trip to the 28th annual International Women in Aviation Conference (includes round-trip airfare, hotel accommodations, and conference fee). Applicants must be full-time students at the junior or senior level with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better (on a 4.0 scale). Applicants must be U.S. citizens or eligible non-citizens.

This scholarship will be awarded to an individual interested in obtaining a helicopter mechanic certificate. Preference will be given to an applicant who is pursuing an airframe, power plant, both airframe and powerplant certificates, or the international equivalent. A primary determinant will be based on the applicant’s interest and determination to work in the helicopter industry.

Pratt & Whitney will award a total of six engine maintenance training scholarships to individuals pursuing careers in aviation maintenance. Winners will have the option to attend any one of the commercial engines maintenance training courses offered by Pratt & Whitney or Pratt & Whitney Canada, such as System Familiarization, Line and Base Maintenance, and Borescope Inspection Procedures on JT8D, JT9D, PW2000, PW4000, PT6, or PW100 engines.

Southwest Airlines is pleased to offer two individual maintenance training scholarships. The recipient may choose from the following courses: two-week 737-700/800 systems class, or one-week 737-700/800 avionics class. Included in the scholarship is a roundtrip ticket on Southwest Airlines to Dallas, hotel accommodations, and provisions for meals for the duration of class.

As part of our continuing commitment to aviation maintenance, ATP will award a $1,000 scholarship to a woman pursuing the airframe and powerplant (A&P) certificate with a passion to work in general aviation maintenance. Please include a personal statement in your essay describing your interest and ambitions in general aviation.
