Scholarship awards are a major benefit of membership in Women in Aviation International. In the past 20 years, WAI has disbursed more than $10 million to its members to help them reach their goals and advance into the aviation and aerospace careers they have always dreamed about. The 2018 scholarship program will begin in July and run through November 13, 2017. Applicants must be a member of Women in Aviation International by November 1, 2017, and may apply for no more than three scholarships. Internships are not included in the three per member scholarship limit.

HAI Helicopter Maintenance Scholarship Rotor A&P

This scholarship will be awarded to an individual interested in obtaining a helicopter mechanic certificate. Preference will be given to an applicant who is pursuing an airframe, powerplant, or both airframe and powerplant certificates, or the international equivalent. A primary determinant will be based on the applicant's interest and determination to work in the helicopter industry.

The Wings for Val Foundation (www.WingsforVal.org) honors the legacy of Lt. Valerie Cappelaere Delaney (May 14, 1986-March 11, 2013) through a mission to support women in aviation and to inspire the next generation of female leaders. This scholarship honors the legacy of Capt. Sara Knutson Cullen, a UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter pilot for the U. S. Army who perished on the same day as Val in Afghanistan. Her family remembers Sara as smart, funny, and driven to succeed.

This scholarship will be awarded to someone interested in obtaining a private helicopter rating. Preference will be given to an applicant who has a minimum of five hours logged in a helicopter by the scholarship deadline date. Fixed wing experience is not required. Proof of a current third-class medical certificate and logged helicopter time is required.

Delta Air Lines Engine Maintenance Internship

Delta Air Lines would like to extend a 2018 summer internship (13 weeks) opportunity to a student currently enrolled in a baccalaureate degree in business management or industrial engineering. In addition to an internship position, the recipient will receive a trip to the 29th Annual International Women in Aviation Conference (includes round-trip airfare, hotel accommodations, and conference fee). Pratt & Whitney will award a total of six engine maintenance training scholarships to individuals pursuing careers in aviation maintenance. Winners will have the option to attend any one of the commercial engines maintenance training courses offered by Pratt & Whitney or Pratt & Whitney Canada, such as system familiarization, line and base maintenance, and borescope inspection procedures on JT8D, JT9D, PW2000, PW4000, PT6, or PW100 engines.

The TAM Scholarship was created after sponsor Carolyn Burton, an American Airlines mechanic, identified a need for providing tools to a female student starting out in aircraft maintenance. Carolyn will offer one tool scholarship for $2,500 worth of tools of your choice plus round-trip airfare. In addition, Snap-On Industrial is generously contributing an aviation starter tool kit with a value of $2,500. This scholarship is specifically for the purchase of tools for a currently enrolled full-time female student in maintenance training for airframe and powerplant certificates.

FedEx Express JT8 Engine

FedEx Express is accepting applications from qualified aviation schools, universities, museums, and other aviation education organizations for a JT8D engine with stand from the company's retiring fleet. Please submit a detailed summary of your organization, including information about your program, how the engine would enhance your program, and any joint use opportunities with other area programs to increase the use of the asset.

Southwest Airlines is pleased to offer two individual maintenance training scholarships. The recipient may choose from the following courses: two-week 737-700/800 systems class or one-week 737-700/800 avionics class. Included in the scholarship is a round-trip ticket on Southwest Airlines to Dallas, hotel accommodations, and provisions for meals for the duration of class.

American Airlines will award one $5,000 scholarship to a student currently enrolled in an aviation maintenance technician program (A&P) or a degree in aviation maintenance technology. Candidates will be evaluated on academic standing, personal accomplishments, teamwork, leadership skills, and community service involvement.

Applicants must meet all WAI scholarship requirements and guidelines, have a minimum GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) or higher, be enrolled in an accredited U.S. maintenance program, and be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.

For over 40 years, ATP has supported the global general aviation industry with technology and services that promote safety and quality for maintenance operations. As part of our continuing commitment to aviation maintenance, ATP will award a $1,000 scholarship to a woman pursuing the airframe and powerplant (A&P) certificate with a passion to work in general aviation maintenance. Please include a personal statement in your essay describing your interest and ambitions in general aviation.
