Funds used for Girls in Aviation Day and Aviation for Girls magazine

Women in Aviation International received a $15,000 grant from the International Society of Transport Aircraft Training (ISTAT) Foundation, which funds educational programs that advance commercial aviation. This is the fifth year that WAI has received an ISTAT Foundation grant.

As in past years, this grant will be used to expand the distribution of Aviation for Girls magazine with the ISTAT Foundation identified as the sponsor of this year’s issue. With this grant, the number of copies printed will be increased and its distribution expanded in hard copy and digitally. The 2019 issue of Aviation for Girls will be available digitally to all Women in Aviation International members and any interested individuals at WAI.org.

For the first time, Aviation for Girlswill also be polybagged with the September/October issue of Aviation for Women so that all WAI members have a copy of the magazine to pass along to a daughter, granddaughter, niece, neighbor, or other girl in their lives. In addition, Aviation for Girls will once again be distributed at EAA’s KidVenture during 2020 EAA AirVenture Oshkosh and at aviation events for the remainder of 2019 and through the summer of 2020.

Aviation for Girls is an integral part of Girls in Aviation Day. WAI’s chapters will distribute the magazine on Saturday, October 5, 2019, to participants at hundreds of events around the world. Through this yearly magazine, girls ages 8 to 17 are introduced to careers in aviation and aerospace.

"The ISTAT Foundation’s support of Aviation for Girls and Girls in Aviation Day makes it possible for us to reach thousands of girls to show them the fascinating career and lifestyle possibilities available in the aviation community,” says WAI Outreach Director Molly Martin. “Aviation for Girls is a great take-home item for participants in Girls in Aviation Day and a mainstay across the aviation industry as the magazine shows the girls where to go and what to do to learn more about aviation. Thank you ISTAT for your generosity which impacts the future of aviation.”

The ISTAT Foundation was founded in 1994 to provide funds for scholarships, educational programs, and grants to qualified individuals and institutions that promote the advancement of commercial aviation and humanitarianism. The ISTAT Foundation Grants Program, administered by the ISTAT Foundation Grants Committee of the ISTAT Foundation Board of Trustees, offers direct grant funding to non-profit [section 501(c)(3) or its equivalent outside the United States] organizations.
