Six Girls in Aviation Day Events Planned for September

Six Girls in Aviation Day events in September will kick off the Girls in Aviation Day worldwide outreach, planned for October 5, 2019.

Worldwide outreach scheduled for October 5, 2019

Women in Aviation International’s network of corporate members, partners and more than 130 chapters, are making their plans for individual events for Girls in Aviation Day 2019. Girls in Aviation Day is truly a worldwide event with activities planned by WAI chapters from Australia to the Netherlands, from India to Botswana. Dozens of Girls in Aviation Day events are planned for the United States.

Individual chapter and corporate members plan their own day’s events, based on varying venues, local WAI members and availability of local resources.

Funds used for Girls in Aviation Day and Aviation for Girls magazine

Women in Aviation International received a $15,000 grant from the International Society of Transport Aircraft Training (ISTAT) Foundation, which funds educational programs that advance commercial aviation. This is the fifth year that WAI has received an ISTAT Foundation grant.

As in past years, this grant will be used to expand the distribution of Aviation for Girls magazine with the ISTAT Foundation identified as the sponsor of this year’s issue. With this grant, the number of copies printed will be increased and its distribution expanded in hard copy and digitally. The 2019 issue of Aviation for Girls will be available digitally to all Women in Aviation International members and any interested individuals at WAI.org .

Fourth successful international outreach completed

Women in Aviation International’s chapters have been surveyed, and the results show that Girls in Aviation Day 2018 accomplished its goal of introducing a record number of girls ages 8 to 17 to the career and lifestyle possibilities in the aviation world. As in past years, Girls in Aviation Day was hosted by WAI chapters (including several located on college/university campuses) with additional participation by WAI corporate members including airlines, FBOs, aviation museums, and flight schools.

On October 13, 2018, 105 chapters and corporate members held 99 separate Girls in Aviation Day events including nine international chapters, 25 corporate member events, and 23 collegiate chapters. International events were held in 15 countries including Australia, Botswana, Canada, England, France, Germany, Ghana, India, Ireland, Kenya, Netherlands, Nigeria, Spain, United States, and Zambia.

United Airlines' Girls in Aviation Day events span 2 continents and 6 countries

United Airlines will host hundreds of girls at a dozen airports served by the global airline in the United States and Europe as part of Women in Aviation International (WAI) Girls in Aviation Day. Throughout the airline’s international operation, United will welcome girls ages 8 to 17 from various nonprofit organizations to learn from women, shadow their day-to-day roles and hear about various career opportunities available in aviation. As part of the day, the girls will experience a behind-the-scenes look at United Airlines’ operations at a busy airport and see first-hand how exciting working in the aviation industry can be.

Funds used for Girls in Aviation Day participants about helicopters

Women in Aviation International (WAI) has received a $10,000 grant from Bell to help fund educational activities for WAI’s Girls in Aviation Day. Specifically, this grant is used to provide helicopter-oriented editorial content in WAI’s annual magazine Aviation for Girls and to provide hands-on educational activities including understanding rotary flight by experimenting with and flying whirly-gigs.
