Scenic Bus Tour of Lake Tahoe & Virginia City

Thursday, March 22 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m.  •  Cost: $80 (lunch included, non-refundable)

A visit to Lake Tahoe means a visit to one of American’s most unique resort areas!  Our tour departs Reno and travels up Mt. Rose as the Convention Activities guide will narrate and point out interesting sights along the way.

There will be shorts stops along the shore of Lake Tahoe to enjoy taking pictures and looking at the scenery.  Lake Tahoe is a large freshwater lake in the Sierra Nevada Mountains.  It is located along the border between California and Nevada, west of Carson City.  Lake Tahoe is the largest alpine lake in the United States.  Its depth is 514 m making it America’s second-deepest.  The lake is known for the clarity of its water and the panorama of surrounding mountains on all sides.  It has a maximum depth of 1,640 feet, trailing only to Oregon’s Crater Lake.

Then it’s off to Discover Virginia City!

Guests will travel to Virginia City where guests can explore the past.  Established in 1859, Virginia City became the richest mining town in the world.  San Francisco was built from the mines of the Comstock and the Civil War was partially financed from the gold and silvers discovered beneath the city.  Today's Virginia City is remarkably the same as it was during its heyday with wooden sidewalks, restored mansions, and “Old West” saloons.   Mark Twain began his illustrious writing career at Virginia City's own "Territorial Enterprise."  Guests can visit his, as well as numerous other museums, shops, mansions, and churches in this richly historic town during their free time.

Lunch will be included for your group at a local restaurant.  A Trolley Ride ticket will be given to each guest to use during their free time.  The Trolley Ride is a 2 ½ mile, 20-minute narrated tour of Virginia City.  After lunch guests may want to meander down to Grandma’s Fudge for something to satisfy their sweet tooth before enjoying free time for shopping, sight seeing or just people-watching before re-boarding the bus for the return trip to Reno.

*Please note that most of the time spent on the tour you will be walking.
