WAI membership elects new board members at 2016 conference

Karen Gebhart, Vice President of Business Development for the Helicopter Association International, was elected for a two-year term as the chair of Women in Aviation International's (WAI) board of directors at the 2016 International Women in Aviation Conference. Aviation Girl patch recognizes Girl Scouts' participation

Women in Aviation I nternational has created a Girl Scout fun patch to award to Girl Scouts who take part in Girls in Aviation Day events. The first chance girls will have to earn the patch will be at Girls in Aviation Day Nashville, on Saturday, March 12, 2016 at the International Women in Aviation Conference.

Funds will be used purchase educational materials

Women in Aviation International received a $3,200 grant from The Sporty's Foundation, whose mission is to ensure a healthy general aviation community for the next generation. The grant will be used to purchase instructional sectional charts to use as a hands-on teaching activity for girls ages 8 to 16 for the September 24, 2016 youth outreach.

As president of Women in Aviation International, I strongly support all efforts to allow Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASP) to be buried in Arlington National Cemetery, or any military cemetery of the surviving family's choice that is available to other military service personnel.

Tracey Curtis-Taylor successfully completed her United Kingdom to Australia flight on January 1, 2016, recreating a pioneering 1930 solo flight by Amy Johnson.
