Six years of support helps make Girls in Aviation Day and Aviation for Girls magazine possible

For the sixth year in a row, Women in Aviation International received a $15,000 grant from the International Society of Transport Aircraft Training (ISTAT) Foundation, which funds educational programs that advance commercial aviation.

As in past years, this grant will be used to expand the distribution of Aviation for Girls magazine with the ISTAT Foundation identified as the sponsor of this year’s issue. With this grant, the number of copies printed will be distributed in both hard copy and digitally. The 2020 issue of Aviation for Girls will be available digitally to all Women in Aviation International members and any interested individuals at WAI.org

WAI to launch new Aviation for Girls App on 6 th Annual GIAD, September 26

Women in Aviation International’s Girls in Aviation Day (GIAD) will go on in 2020 – despite the global pandemic – and it will be bigger and more far-reaching than ever! WAI chapters and corporate members will not host in-person events this year, and will instead deliver a virtual experience through a new Aviation for Girls app that is free and available to all beginning Saturday, September 26, 2020.

“With the continued growth and success of Girls in Aviation Day – in large part due to the dedicated and tireless efforts of WAI Corporate Members and Chapters all around the world – we knew we had to expand the GIAD experience this year, and canceling wasn’t an option,” says WAI CEO Allison McKay. “With input from our chapters, partners, board of directors, and staff, we decided for the safety of our youngsters and volunteers, to provide a virtual experience that takes no chances with safety.”

More than 100 Women Airforce Service Pilots are honored

Women in Aviation International members and friends carefully planned gravesite tributes or virtual message recordings to 110 Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASP) across the country during last month’s Memorial Day weekend. In an effort to allow participants to observe best social-distancing practices, WAI used the last two weeks in May to visit gravesites and take photos to leave appropriate decorations in the form of flowers, flags, or other remembrances.

We wish our members and their families health, safety, and peace – to which we all have the inalienable right, regardless of the color of our skin. At WAI, we strive to encourage, empower, and educate all those whose interests...

In an effort to allow participants to observe best social-distancing practices, WAI offers that large groups can be easily avoided by visiting gravesites over the next two weeks as opposed to just on Monday, May 25 th , Memorial Day.
