Scholarships

Scholarship awards are a major benefit of membership in Women in Aviation International and help members reach their goals and advance into the aviation and aerospace careers they have always dreamed about. A total of $695,500 was awarded in 2018, bringing the total scholarships awarded since 1995 to $11,495,581. In addition to WAI requirements, you must hold a student pilot or sport pilot certificate and third class medical.  Must have one letter of recommendation from someone who has flown with you,  and be an active member of the LIFT Facebook Page.  Ladies in Flight Training—LIFT is a Facebook page dedicated to the positive encouragement and support of women in all phases of flight training. The scholarships will be awarded to deserving member of the page to assist ladies in earning their wings!

Ace Aerobatic School is offering its spin training course for a pilot who wishes to enhance her skills and resume.  In your essay, share your aviation background, your plan for the future and how spin training can help with your goals.  This scholarship is open to anyone with at least a student pilot certificate.  For the aspiring flight instructor with at least a commercial certificate and training toward to the CFI certificate, the course can include a sign-off for the CFI certificate.

Open to US female citizen applicants only.  This scholarship offers five free flight hours at the GIFT Academy in Vernon, Texas.  Travel will be at the expense of the winner and will take place at F05 in Texas. Training dates will be coordinated in advance subject to CFI availability.  Applicants must be a student pilot or above, hold at least a student pilot certificate and medical certificate. Must have one letter of recommendation from someone who has flown with you.

This scholarship will help an aspiring CFI to earn her spin endorsement at one of three possible locations.  The student will be able to choose the type of aircraft depending upon the school chosen. Note: Spin endorsement is not guaranteed but the student will be closer to earning it. All monies to be sent directly to the school chosen.  Applicants must be a femalle U.S.

Air Wisconsin Airlines will award four Airline Transport Pilot Certificate Training Program (ATP CTP) Scholarships to qualified members of  WAI.

Online Applications Only    The flyGIRL scholarship is open to female U.S. citizens of any age with an interest in aviation.  The scholarship money will be paid directly to the flight school and must be used within a year of receipt.  It can be used for the private pilot’s license or any advanced certificate or rating. Include in your essay why you should be awarded the funds and specifically what the funds will be used for.  A personal meeting or phone interview may also be required.

This scholarship will be awarded to a WAI member who has undergone hardship (which may be physical, emotional, or financial) and offers them a unique way to challenge themselves and thus gain self-confidence and increased resiliency skills.  The scholarship covers flight training up to the amount of $1500, taking the student to the level of competency where they are able to control the aircraft on their own, whilst having an instructor beside them in the aircraft.  The selection will be based on information submitted in the scholarship application.

This scholarship is established in honor of Major General (Ret.) William Russell Cotney in recognition of his 40 years of meritorious service to his country in the United States Air Force and Air National Guard and in honor of his daughter, Lauren Cotney, who following in her father’s footsteps, is distinguishing herself as a Pilot for Delta Air Lines and in her service to her country as a member of the Air National Guard.Successful applicants must be women pursuing a professional airline pilot career as a junior, senior, or graduate level student enrolled in an accredited college or univer

Alaska Airlines will award one $2,500 scholarships to a female pilot pursuing a professional airline pilot career. Applicants must be full-time students at the junior or senior level with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) or better; and U.S. citizens or eligible non-citizens.

This scholarship provides $5,000 to applicants who want to attain their commercial helicopter ratings. Applicants must already have their private pilot’s license and be enrolled in a commercial helicopter rating program at an FAA-approved Part 141 school or international equivalent.
