Scholarships

Scholarship awards are a major benefit of membership in Women in Aviation International and help members reach their goals and advance into the aviation and aerospace careers they have always dreamed about. A total of $695,500 was awarded in 2018, bringing the total scholarships awarded since 1995 to $11,495,581. This scholarship will help an aspiring CFI to earn her spin endorsement at one of three possible locations.  The student will be able to choose the type of aircraft depending upon the school chosen. Note: Spin endorsement is not guaranteed but the student will be closer to earning it. All monies to be sent directly to the school chosen.  Applicants must be a femalle U.S.

Air Wisconsin Airlines will award four Airline Transport Pilot Certificate Training Program (ATP CTP) Scholarships to qualified members of  WAI.

Online Applications Only    The flyGIRL scholarship is open to female U.S. citizens of any age with an interest in aviation.  The scholarship money will be paid directly to the flight school and must be used within a year of receipt.  It can be used for the private pilot’s license or any advanced certificate or rating. Include in your essay why you should be awarded the funds and specifically what the funds will be used for.  A personal meeting or phone interview may also be required.

This scholarship will be awarded to a WAI member who has undergone hardship (which may be physical, emotional, or financial) and offers them a unique way to challenge themselves and thus gain self-confidence and increased resiliency skills.  The scholarship covers flight training up to the amount of $1500, taking the student to the level of competency where they are able to control the aircraft on their own, whilst having an instructor beside them in the aircraft.  The selection will be based on information submitted in the scholarship application.

This scholarship is established in honor of Major General (Ret.) William Russell Cotney in recognition of his 40 years of meritorious service to his country in the United States Air Force and Air National Guard and in honor of his daughter, Lauren Cotney, who following in her father’s footsteps, is distinguishing herself as a Pilot for Delta Air Lines and in her service to her country as a member of the Air National Guard.Successful applicants must be women pursuing a professional airline pilot career as a junior, senior, or graduate level student enrolled in an accredited college or univer

Alaska Airlines will award one $2,500 scholarships to a female pilot pursuing a professional airline pilot career. Applicants must be full-time students at the junior or senior level with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) or better; and U.S. citizens or eligible non-citizens.

This scholarship provides $5,000 to applicants who want to attain their commercial helicopter ratings. Applicants must already have their private pilot’s license and be enrolled in a commercial helicopter rating program at an FAA-approved Part 141 school or international equivalent.

A female pilot will receive assistance in achieving an initial flight instructor certificate or a new rating on her flight instructor certificate, as well as lifetime access to the entire King Schools online course library of more than 85 courses.  Martha and John King are co-chairmen of King Schools, the largest provider of online training for pilots from student through professional.  A primary mission of King Schools is to support flight instructors by preparing their clients for FAA knowledge tests and providing training insights through King's Flight Instructor Refresher Course.  Marth

Since August 29, 2016, most pilots operating a small UAS for non-recreational purposes must either hold a FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate with a Small UAS Rating or be under the direct supervision of a person who does hold a Remote Pilot Certificate (the remote Pilot in Command).  To qualify for a Remote Pilot Certificate, you must:  1) Pass an initial aeronautical knowledge test at an FAA-Approved Knowledge Testing Center OR If you already hold an FAA Part 61 Pilot Certificate (other than Student Pilot) 2) Have a successful Flight Review endorsed within the previous 24 months 3) Comp
