Scholarships

Scholarship awards are a major benefit of membership in Women in Aviation International and help members reach their goals and advance into the aviation and aerospace careers they have always dreamed about. A total of $695,500 was awarded in 2018, bringing the total scholarships awarded since 1995 to $11,495,581. The sponsors of this scholarship would like to make a difference in the life of one deserving person who is pursuing their dream in the world of aviation.  A $3000 scholarship will be awarded to an individual working toward an instrument or multi-engine rating, commercial or CFI certificate. Funds will be paid directly to your flight school and training must be completed within one year. The recipient will be chosen on a basis of merit, career aspirations and dedication, as well as contributions to her community.

The Wings for Val Foundation (www.wingsforval.org) honors the legacy of Lieutenant Valerie Cappelaere Delaney (May 14, 1986 – March 11, 2013) through a mission to support women in aviation and to inspire the next generation of female leaders.  Val achieved her lifelong dream of becoming a pilot when she earned her “Wings of Gold” in 2012 and started flying the EA-6B Prowler for the U.S. Navy.

You must be an U.S. citizen or have a current visa to the US to apply.  Training will take place at the Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.  Lodging and travel expenses are not included.  This is for applicants looking to become corporate flight attendants only.  Our training is in compliance with rules and regulations of the FAA Part 91, 125 and 135 and is accepted worldwide.  Scholarship must be used within a year of the award.

The Boeing Company will award a scholarship to a woman who wishes to advance her career in the aerospace industry in the fields of engineering, technology development or management.  The award is to be used for educational purposes only and may not be applied toward flight hours.  Applicants may be full-time or part-time employees currently in the aerospace industry or a related field.  Also eligible are students pursuing aviation and aerospace-related degrees that are at the sophomore level with a minimum GPA of 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale).

In 2005 the Chuck Yeager Foundation established a scholarship to assist those who may not otherwise be able to become involved in aviation.  This scholarship will be awarded to a deserving WAI member who has applied for other WAI scholarships and who has unique circumstances that impede their ability to advance their aviation plans.  The recipient of this scholarship will be selected from the applications submitted for other scholarships.  The selection will be based on information submitted in the scholarship application.  No separate application is required.

The “It's About Time Scholarship” is overseen by Abingdon Foundation each year and awards a full registration to the International Women in Aviation Conference, round-trip airfare, and room and board during the conference to a woman 18 years or older.  Along with access to seminars and multiple networking opportunities, we will introduce the winner to key people in aviation who will share their experiences. Applicants are not required to be pilots or in the aviation industry.
