Scholarship awards are a major benefit of membership in Women in Aviation International and help members reach their goals and advance into the aviation and aerospace careers they have always dreamed about. In 2020, WAI awarded 151 scholarships valued at $831,365 bringing the total scholarships awarded since 1995 to over $13.2 million.

Aviation Maintenance Scholarships

The TAM Scholarship was created after sponsor Carolyn Burton, an American Airlines Mechanic identified a need for providing tools to a female student starting out in Aircraft Maintenance. Carolyn will offer one TOOL Scholarship for $2500 worth of TOOLS of your choice plus round-trip airfare. In addition, Snap-On Industrial is generously contributing an aviation starter tool kit with a value of $2500.

For almost 50 years, ATP has been a proud supporter of global general aviation with information services and software solutions focused on making flying safer and more reliable. ATP will award a $1,000 scholarship to a woman pursuing the aircraft maintenance licenses. Please include a personal statement in your essay describing your interest and ambitions in aviation.

Hybrid Course (Online / 8-day classroom session)  The Universal Weather and Aviation, Inc. hybrid Aircraft Dispatcher Course is comprised of two elements: a four-month (17 week) self-paced online portion and an 8-day classroom session. This course allows you to complete the majority of the coursework online over a four-month period.  Once you complete the online requirements and pass the FAA Airman Knowledge Test, you will spend 8 days at our training facility in Houston, TX to complete the practical portion of your training.

The following are details of this scholarship: 1. The scholarship will have a monetary value of $5,840.00 which will cover instruction and training required to take the Aircraft Dispatch written test and check ride with an FAA 121 examiner for certification.

The Washington State Chapter of Women in Aviation, International (WAI) offers a $1500 scholarship for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (S.T.E.M.) education in memory of Yukiko Howell. Yukiko taught math, science, and Japanese language for many years at Annie Wright School, a private school in Tacoma, Washington. After obtaining her private pilot certificate, Yukiko taught weekly aviation lessons at her school, including the basics of flying. She advocated aviation in her school lessons, emphasizing math and science proficiency as a means to achieve an exciting aviation career.

Bunny M. Connors was a career respiratory therapist at several hospitals in the North Andover, MA area. She later chose to pursue her life-long dream of flying. She became a flight instructor, enthusiastically sharing her love of flying with her students. She went on to a commercial flying career with Bird Aviation and Cape Central Airways. The scholarship will be awarded to a WAI member pursuing a private pilot certificate or instrument rating. Flight training must be completed in 12 months of receiving scholarship.

This scholarship is established in honor of Major General (Ret.)
