The WAI Spirit of Columbus Chapter annual scholarship award is designed to advance the aviation or aerospace career of the recipient. The scholarship is intended to defray appropriate tuition or associated expenses for flight, ground, or simulator instruction for a woman seeking any FAA certificate or rating. The scholarship award is also designed to cover a range of aviation-vocation areas, including dispatch, engineering, maintenance, and management. An applicant must be at least 17 years old and a U.S. citizen, and she must be matriculating in good standing at an accredited high school or college. Female aviation professionals and enthusiasts who seek to advance their training or career are also welcome to apply. Scholarship nominees will be reviewed by a committee of active chapter members, and approved by the members of the chapter. Preference given to a resident of Franklin, Union, Delaware, Licking, Fairfield, Pickaway, Fayette, Madison, and Logan counties of Ohio, but all applicants will be considered based upon character, need, community involvement, and accomplishments. The scholarship award will be paid directly to an educational institution and must be used within one year of receiving the award.
