The Southern Museum of Flight supports the legacy of Mary Alice Beatty, pilot and originator of the museum, with a $5,000 scholarship for young women ages 17-25 actively seeking careers in aviation and aerospace technology. The scholarship exists to support job growth for women within aviation and aerospace technology within the state of Alabama, but all applicants will be considered.
Applicants must be pursuing flight lessons, classes, or internships that will further their careers in aviation and aerospace technology and must be reflected within a one-page essay emphasizing how the award will help achieve personal goals within aviation. If they are enrolled in school, they must carry a 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) and a copy of the transcript to show this. Applicants must be a resident in the state of Alabama, be enrolled in an Alabama school, or work in a professional internship/apprenticeship within the state of Alabama.
Funds will be paid directly to the school and must be used within a year of being awarded. Please include a confidential financial statement of past funds allocated to current lessons, classes, and/or internships. In addition, include a separate budgetary statement that lists future need and what the award would be allocated toward. The financial statements may be on the same page in the form of an Excel document but separated as "Past Funds" and "Future Need."
