Scholarships

Women in Aviation International is thrilled to offer additional 2021 Spring Scholarships in a variety of career pursuits thanks to a generous $250,000 grant from the Conrad N. Hilton Foudation. Scholarships include funding to further members' interests in air traffic control, aviation maintenance, flight training, helicopter ratings, and space. New to this round of schoalrships are four scholarships, each worth $3,000 for WAI Chapter members outside of the United States, to be applied toward completion of an addidtional flight certificate.

Applications are due May 18, 2021, and winners will be notified by July 1, 2021, with funds disbursed by August 1, 2021. You must be an active WAI member to apply.

Air Traffic Control Scholarships

This scholarship will be awarded to an individual desiring a career as an air traffic control specialist in tower, TRACON, or ARTCC option. Applicants must meet all WAI scholarship requirements and, in the essay, describe the reason for selecting a career as an ATC specialist.

Helicopter Scholarships

This scholarship will be awarded to a WAI member who wants to attain their commercial helicopter rating. Applicants must already have a private pilot certificate; be at least 18 years old; be enrolled in a commercial helicopter rating program at an FAA-approved Part 141 school; and expect to complete her/his helicopter commercial license by the end of 2021. Proof of a current third-class medical certificate and logged helicopter time is required. Funds will be paid directly to your flight school and must be completed within one year of award.

This scholarship will be awarded to a WAI member interested in obtaining a private helicopter rating. Applicant must be at least 17 years old. Preference will be given to an applicant who has a minimum of 5 hours logged in a helicopter by the scholarship deadline date. Proof of a current third-class medical certificate and logged helicopter time is required. Funds will be paid directly to your flight school and must be completed within one year of award.

Aviation Maintenance Scholarships

This scholarship will be awarded to a student currently enrolled in an Aviation Maintenance Technician Program (A&P) or a degree in Aviation Maintenance Technology. If the applicant is a full-time student enrolled in high school, an accredited flight program, or an accredited college or university, she/he must have a cumulative 3.0 GPA or better (on a 4.0 scale). Funds will be paid directly to your flight school and must be completed within one year of award.

Aviation Management Scholarships

This scholarship will be awarded to a woman in an aviation management field who has exemplified the traits of leadership, community spirit, and volunteerism. The award is to be used for educational purposes only and may not be applied toward flight hours. Applicant may be a full-time or part-time employee currently in the aerospace industry or a related field. Students pursuing aviation and aerospace-related degrees that are at the sophomore level with a minimum 2.5 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) are also eligible to apply.

Aerospace Engineering Scholarships

This scholarship will be awarded to a student pursuing a degree in aeronautical, electrical, or mechanical engineering or space studies degree with a passion to work in the space industry. Candidates will be evaluated on academic standing, personal accomplishments, leadership skills, and future career aspirations. Applicants must meet all WAI scholarship requirements with a minimum 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale); enrolled in an accredited U.S. engineering or space studies program through a college or university; and be a sophomore or higher.

Flight Training Scholarships

This scholarship is to be used for training for a CFI certificate. Applicants must hold a current commercial/instrument certificate. If the applicant is a full-time student enrolled in high school, an accredited flight program, or an accredited college or university, she/he must have a cumulative 3.0 GPA or better (on a 4.0 scale). Funds will be paid directly to your flight school and must be completed within one year of award.

Funds will be paid directly to your flight school and must be completed within one year of award.
