WOMEN IN AVIATION, INTERNATIONAL 1997 SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS ANNOUNCED
The winners of the 1997 Women in Aviation, International Scholarships
were announced recently during the annual conference held this year in
Dallas, Texas. More than $150,000 in scholarships, training opportunities
and cash prizes were presented. Winners and their awards included: Airbus
Industrie, N.A. - Two Leadership Awards ($1,000 each) to Tricia Curtis-Lapacek,
West Lafayette, Indiana and Melanie Neumier, Paw Paw, Michigan.
American Airlines - Three MD-80 type ratings to Dawn Kusic, Defiance, Ohio; Sonya Laxo, Forestville, California; and Holly Pemberton, Woodland, California.
Aviation Technical Publishers - Maintenance Technician of the Year Award ($1,000 prize) to Chris Leonard, West Chester, Pennsylvania
FlightSafety - Cessna Citation Type Rating to Sandra McGettigan, Bedford, Texas. Manitenance/Avionics Training to Leslie Stewart, West Lafayette, Indiana.
Flight Training Magazine - Two scholarships to college/university students to attend the Women in Aviation Conference to Paula Blanton of Danville, Virginia and Jennifer Doering of Moses Lake, Washington.
Northwest Airlines - Type rating in aircraft of recipient's choice. Winner of the scholarship was Audrey Cook, Whitmore Lake, Michigan.
SimuFlite - Cessna Citation type rating to Laura Babar, South Amboy, New Jersey.
United Airlines - Type rating of winner's choice. winner of the scholarship was Jessica Pasmore, Lafayette, Indiana.
Women in Aviation, International - Three $500 cash awards to Victoria Moore, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Rita Lynn Hood, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Sandra Watkins, Waco, Texas.

Scholarships will be awarded at the 12th Annual International Women
in Aviation Conference, March 22-24, 2001, in Reno,
Nevada. Scholarship opportunities will be announced in the September/October
issue of Aviation for Women and on WAI’s Web site. The application
deadline is December 8, 2000.
