April 1, 2010
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Women in Aviation, International has completed its annual disbursement of scholarships, bringing the total for the 2010 Conference to $688,000. This includes scholarships for academic study, technical training, flight training scholarships for licenses, ratings and typeratings as well as cash awards for specialized aviation activities, including recreational flying.
"Scholarships are a huge part of Women in Aviation, International," said WAI President Dr. Peggy Chabrian. "Since the beginning of our scholarship program, we have provided $6.7 million to our members."
Both women and men qualify for Women in Aviation, International scholarships. In addition to the specific requirements of each scholarship, the only qualification to apply for a scholarship is that you must be a WAI member.
You may visit www.wai.org/education/scholarship_winners_2010.cfm to view a complete list of scholarships and winners' names for 2010. In addition to scholarship funds, ASTAR Air Cargo, American Airlines, American Eagle Airlines, and American Airlines Credit Union provided funding for numerous travel awards that allowed many of the scholarship recipients to attend the 2010 International Women in Aviation Conference in Orlando to receive their awards.
"We know that our scholarship winners have gone on to great accomplishment in the aviation industry," added Dr. Chabrian. "In fact, a few of our scholarship winners are now providing scholarships of their own."
The variety of WAI scholarships means that winners represent a wide spectrum of age, aviation credentials and work experience. Although many of the scholarships are intended for WAI members completing their education, scholarships are also available for flight training and maintenance training, including those that are specifically intended to foster a career change or an opportunity to begin flying for fun.
Scholarships available for 2011 will be posted at www.wai.org in mid-July 2010. These scholarships will be awarded at the 22nd Annual International Women in Aviation Conference at Grand Sierra Resort, Reno, Nevada, from February 24-26, 2011.
