Excitement Builds for Women in Aviation Conference

The Women in Aviation Conference is set for Atlanta on February 26 -28, 2009, with companies and organizations having recruitment in mind in spite of a tough economic picture.

For those Conference-goers anxious to hear “You’re hired!” the WAI Exhibit Hall is the place to be. Here’s a sampling: The Boeing Company is looking for Assembly Mechanics, Engineers, Project Managers, and IT professionals. The Defense Intelligence Agency is currently seeking applicants for jobs ranging from IT to Administrative, HR to Health Services. Add in recruitment efforts from Garmin, Sikorsky, Hamilton Sundstrand and Alpha Flying Inc. to name a few. In the words of WAI President Peggy Chabrian, "Our Exhibit Hall just may be the Land of Opportunity for many of our members."

This Conference is the 20th Anniversary Conference for Women in Aviation, and, as such, plans are in place to make this an unforgettable event. In fact, Sonny Perdue, the governor of Georgia and himself a pilot, is a keynote speaker.

"We want to feature speakers representing all aspects of aviation to reflect the diversity of our members’ professional interests," says Dr. Chabrian. Craig Fuller, recently named president of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association will speak as will Peggy Whitson, NASA’s most experienced astronaut.

With the theme "A New Approach to Your Tomorrow," the WAI Conference includes a tour of Delta’s Tech Ops Center and Robins AFB as well as a private tour and reception at the world-famous Georgia Aquarium. Seminars, workshops, networking events, speakers, and the commercial exhibit area round out the event. The Conference concludes on Saturday evening, February 28 with WAI's traditional banquet where many scholarships are awarded and the 2009 group of Aviation Pioneers is inducted into WAI's Aviation Pioneer Hall of Fame. The closing banquet is sponsored by UPS.
