Major General Betty L. Mullis is a keynote speaker at the 2006 Women in Aviation, International Conference. She is the Director, Reserve Readiness, Joint Reserve Forces (J-9) and mobilization assistant to the Deputy Director of the Defense Logistics Agency, Fort Belvoir, Va.
The 17th Annual International Women in Aviation Conference will be held from Thursday, March 23 through Saturday, March 25, 2006, in Nashville, Tennessee. This year's Conference will take place at the Opryland Hotel. Major General Mullis will speak on Friday morning, March 24, 2005.
Major General Mullis is a command pilot with more than 4,900 flying hours in military aircraft. She participated in worldwide air refueling and airlift operations including Desert Storm, Provide Hope and Joint Endeavor. Her distinguished career has earned her a place in Women in Aviation's Pioneer Hall of Fame. She will be inducted into the Pioneer Hall of Fame, along with four other women, during the closing banquet on Saturday, March 25, 2006.
With the theme of "Reaching New Heights of Success," participants in the 2006 WAI Conference will be immersed in the tactics and strategies necessary for successful aviation careers. More than 3,000 women and men from all segments of the aviation industry are expected to attend.
The Conference includes a full array of speakers, a trade show with an estimated 120 companies, job fair exhibit area, more than 40 educational seminars and numerous networking opportunities. In addition to Major General Mullis's address, several educational sessions will hold particular interest for military attendees. Educational sessions include historic looks at the Women's Auxiliary Ferrying Squadron and Women Airforce Service Pilots. Career counseling comes in the form of a seminar from transitioning from a military to a civilian flying career.
Another highlight of this year's Conference is a panel on space travel. Moderated by former NASA Astronaut Hoot Gibson, the space panel includes Eileen Collins, NASA Astronaut, Shuttle Commander and veteran of four space flights; Brian Binnie, Program Business Manager and Test Pilot at Scaled Composites and SpaceShipOne pilot; and Will Whitehorn, president of Virgin Galactic, the world's first commercial spaceline.
Military attendees are offered a discounted registration package. For $275, military registrants may attend all general sessions and the educational sessions of their choosing, as well as visit the commercial exhibit hall. This registration package also includes a ticket for the opening reception, Friday's luncheon and Saturday's banquet.
First-time attendees who are not Women in Aviation members will be given a complimentary one-year WAI membership which includes a year-long subscription to Aviation for Women magazine. Online registration is available at www.wai.org.
