House Aviation Chairman John L. Mica Set to Speak at Women in Aviation, International Banquet

Daytona Beach, Florida- Representative John L. Mica (R-Florida) is the featured speaker at the closing banquet at this year’s Women in Aviation Conference, held in Dallas on March 10-12, 2005, at the Adam’s Mark Hotel.

Since 2001, Congressman Mica has been Chairman of the Aviation Subcommittee. This subcommittee has oversight of all matters regarding civil aviation including airport improvement, aviation safety and security, and other related issues. Major federal agencies overseen by the Aviation Subcommittee include the Federal Aviation Administration, the Transportation Security Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board.

“Since the work of the Aviation Subcommittee impacts the lives of all of our conference participants, we are delighted that Congressman Mica has agreed to join us in Dallas,” said WAI President Dr. Peggy Chabrian.

Rep. Mica is currently serving his sixth term in the 108th Congress representing Florida's 7th Congressional District, which stretches across six counties from the suburban areas north of Orlando to the Jacksonville city limits. Rep. Mica serves on the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, the Government Reform Committee and the House Administration Committee.

During the banquet, scholarship winners will be recognized and five women will be inducted into WAI’s Pioneer Hall of Fame.

In addition to the Saturday banquet, participants of the 2005 Annual International Women in Aviation Conference will experience first-hand the importance of developing and strengthening strategic alliances as more than 3,000 women and men in the aviation industry join together to share their personal and professional experiences.

The Conference will also include a full array of speakers, a trade show with more than 120 companies, job fair exhibit area, more than 40 educational seminars and numerous networking opportunities. In addition, an Aerospace Education Teacher Workshop, an FAA Aviation Maintenance Professional Renewal Course, an FAA Safety Course and, with help from the AOPA Air Safety Foundation, an AOPA Flight Instructor Renewal Clinic will also be offered. Women in Aviation International will also honor its annual Pioneer Hall of Fame inductees and Scholarship recipients.

Women in Aviation, International is a nonprofit 501(c) (3) organization that provides networking, mentoring and scholarship opportunities for women who looking for challenging and fulfilling careers in the aviation and aerospace industries, for aviation enthusiasts, and aviation educators.
