WAI Second Annual Golf Tournament A Success
Memphis, Tennessee--Golfers sweated the weather, but Friday, May 2 turned out to be a break between storms in the Memphis area and the Second Annual Women in Aviation, International Golf Tournament got off to a shotgun start right on schedule. More members and friends participated than ever, with 25 teams this year. The tournament, benefiting the WAI Endowment Fund, concluded around 5 pm with a 19th hole BBQ buffet and awards.
"I am excited about the growth of the tournament," says tournament founder and WAI board member Capt. Sandy Anderson. "We had grand prizes of airline tickets provided by Northwest, Delta and Continental Airlines Alliance and by Southwest Airlines. Those grand prizes were awarded to the winners of each flight, Taxi (putting) Contest, Instrument Approach (closest to the pin) and women and men's Takeoff (longest drive) Roll. Additionally, a special award went this year to the oldest combined age team, the Golden Tees Team. I watched this team and they were awesome! We also had 75 silent auction items and received an excellent response on silent auction bidding," she says, proud of the money raised and the fact that it goes directly to scholarship recipients each year.
