Women in Aviation International to Honor 100 Most Influential Women

Cincinnati, Ohio March 10, 2003 — More than 1,800 members of Women in Aviation International (WAI) will convene March 20-22 at the Cincinnati Convention Center to pay tribute to 100 women who have forged opportunities within aviation and aerospace. Honoring these women during the Centennial of Flight and Women’s History Month is a fitting tribute. Not only do many of the honorees continue to work for diversity within the industry, they were influential in many of the conference attendees’ careers. And several of those attendees will be awarded scholarships during the WAI closing banquet on March 22.

“We want to make sure that the world knows more women than Amelia Earhart have made a difference in aviation and aerospace,” WAI President, Dr. Peggy Chabrian, said. “Our members have elected 100 women from all aspects of the aviation and aerospace industry to honor at this year’s Centennial of Flight celebration,” she said.

Of those being honored on March 22, many are still active and influential in their fields. Nominees include Colonel Eileen Collins, Space Shuttle Commander; June Maule, aircraft manufacturing CEO; Jane Garvey, former FAA Administrator and current Washington consultant; and Martha King, co-owner of one of the largest providers of video training to aviators worldwide.

Several of the 100 being honored will be available for interviews. The International Women in Aviation Conference is geared to the specific needs of women pursuing careers in all aspects of aviation and aerospace, from engineers, pilots, mechanics and managers to flight attendants and teachers.
