NASA Unveils Premiere American Women in Aerospace
Materials at
11th Annual International Women in Aviation Conference
Dayton, Ohio, Tuesday, March 14, 2000----The National
Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) unveiled the Premiere Women in
Aerospace Poster at a media breakfast on March 10 during the 11th Annual International
Women in Aviation Conference at the Memphis Cook Convention Center in Memphis,
Tenn. The poster was developed as the result of a partnership between NASA
and WAI announced by NASA Administrator Dan Goldin at the 1999 International
Women in Aviation Conference in Orlando. Goldin challenged members of Women
in Aviation, International to encourage young women to consider careers in
engineering, aerospace and education by making presentations to schools, youth
groups and schools. The poster was developed for use to meet this goal.
The poster depicts famous women in the aviation and aerospace industry and provides detailed lesson plans for use in the classroom. USAF Colonel Eileen Collins, NASA’s first female space shuttle commander, and Dr. Kathie Olsen, NASA chief scientist were on hand at the media breakfast to unveil the poster.
The International Women in Aviation Conference is sponsored
by Women in Aviation, International (WAI), a non-profit organization with
more than 4,900 members, based near Dayton, Ohio. WAI is dedicated to the encouragement and advancement
of women in all aviation career fields and interests. WAI offers a variety
of educational outreach programs—from ground schools and career seminar at
