United Airlines Scholarship

Even if you have already applied for the maximum number of 2008 scholarships (2), you may apply for these as well. All other scholarship guidelines still apply. Applications are due for these scholarships only by January 31, 2008.
B737 Systems Maintenance Introduction Course Scholarship (2)
United Airlines in partnership with Women in Aviation International is proud to announce that it is now accepting applications for two (2) scholarships to qualified applicants to attend a 40 hour indoctrination training course on the B737 aircraft. This course will be conducted at the United Airlines Flight Training Center in Denver, Colorado.
If you have an interest in aviation maintenance and desire to learn more about what it takes to be a mechanic at United this course will allow you to sit side by side with United mechanics and learn about aircraft systems, operations, servicing and component locations as it relates to the Boeing 737-322/522.
Minimum Applicant Requirements:
- Must be a current member of WAI in good standing
- A&P preferred
- Interest in aircraft maintenance as a profession
- Technical school preferred
- Mechanic experience (airplane and/or automotive) preferred
- High school graduate or GED
All Scholarship recipients will be responsible for their own transportation lodging and meal expenses.
737 Type Rating Scholarship (2)
United Airlines in partnership with Women in Aviation International is now accepting applications for two (2) United 737 Type Rating scholarships.
Only qualified applicants will be interviewed at the conference. Training will be conducted at the United Airlines Flight Training Center in Denver, Colorado.
Minimum Applicant Requirements:
- Must be a current member of WAI in good standing.
- 1500 hours Total Time-Fixed Wing.
- 1000 hours Multi-engine time (PIC) or Military fighter/trainer (PIC).
- 500 hours Turbine Time.
- 100 hours flown in the past year (Recent of experience).
- Current FCC license.
- Current First Class Medical.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Must be authorized to study in the United States
- A college degree from an accredited school is preferred.
- Must have a valid US Passport
Please note that PIC is defined as Captain/Aircraft Commander of record, not simply the sole manipulator of the controls. Pilot time for minimum qualification only considers time in fixed wing aircraft.
All Scholarship recipients will be responsible for their own transportation, lodging and meal expenses.
Command Leadership Resource Management Scholarship (20)
United Airlines in partnership with Women in Aviation International will accept applications for twenty (20) candidates to attend a United Command Leadership Resource Management course (CLR) at the United Flight Training Center in Denver, Colorado. This course is the equivalent of the Crew Resource Management course (CRM).
This scholarship, upon completion, will enable recipients to competitively qualify for pilot jobs at the regional airline level. The selection committee will review your application to determine if you qualify.
Minimum Applicant Requirements:
- Must be a current member of WAI in good standing
- Minimum of 250 hours of flight time
- Commercial license with multi-engine rating
- First class medical
- Two letters of recommendations from current WAI members preferred.
- Must be at least 19 years of age to apply
All Scholarship recipients will be responsible for their own transportation, lodging and meal expenses.
Flight Dispatch Career Orientation Scholarship (2)
United Airlines in partnership with Women in Aviation International will provide two (2) flight dispatch orientation scholarships to highly motivated qualified applicants. Recipients will spend one to two days at United Airlines Operations Center in Chicago Illinois for an in depth, hands on look into the world of the United flight dispatch department.
Recipients will have the opportunity to interact with United flight dispatchers each day and see first hand what life is like for a major airline dispatcher. United operates one of the largest and most up to date flight dispatch operations at its Operations Center.
Minimum Applicant Requirements:
- High school diploma
- Associates degree or higher preferred
- ATP written or Dispatch written exam preferred
- Aviation Experience of any kind preferred
- Computer skills required
- Must be a current WAI member in good standing
For highly qualified scholarship recipients this opportunity could lead to eligibility to be considered for Flight Dispatch Support positions with consideration for full dispatch licensing opportunities.
