Dr. Karen J. McArdle

Dr. Karen McArdle is a Project Director (and enthusiastic and happy instructor) for the Chicago Youth in Aviation Program, Inc. (CYAP). CYAP provides aviation and aerospace education to over 10,000 school age children K-12 and beyond, daily or weekly in the Chicago Public Schools. Dr. McArdle teaches aviation and aerospace to over 800 students a week and consults for the NASA center at Fenger High School.

In addition to serving as General Counsel for Women in Aviation, International, she also serves on the Board of Directors for Women in Corporation Aviation, Women in Aviation International, Windy City Chapter of Women in Aviation, International.

She was recently elected President of Midway Airport Tenants Association. She is a charter member of International Womens Aviation Association and past legal and insurance advisor for Professional Airshow Performers.

Dr. McArdle holds an ATP received in 1975 with CFIAI (Gold Seal) and more than 3,000 hours in over 50 different airplanes. She earned her first degree in education at Illinois State University in Geography- Geology. During her last year of college, she was a flight instructor and aerial traffic reporter.

After graduation she was a full time academic instructor for the City Colleges of Chicago in their Aviation program; an air taxi pilot and acting Chief Pilot, and a flight instructor out of Chicago Midway for over 10 years.

She returned to school and received her law degree from IIT Chicago Kent College of Law in 1987. She was an aviation defense attorney representing pilots and aircraft owners before moving to Maryland to work for Avemco as Claims attorney for aviation losses throughout the United States. She returned to Chicago as an Appellate Attorney for cases before the higher courts in Illinois and the United States. She was also a trial attorney for over seven years and drafted the CBA Court Procedure book for the 6th District Courthouse, the world's second busiest courtroom as well as the 5th District Courthouse.

She has one lovely daughter, Lorah, a graduate of University of Illinois and now a Tech Writer.
