Captain Sandy Anderson

Sandy Anderson, B-747-400 Captain, began flying over 30 years ago and she has accumulated over 18,000 hours of of flight time including aricraft experience from a Cessna 150 to a B-747-400. She began her airline career with Northwest Airlines in 1979. During her career, Captain Anderson has been an instructor, check pilot and led the advancement of women in the airline industry. Some of her accomplishments include being selected as the first female amongst all the major U.S. pasenger carrying airline as a Fleet Check Captain in 1994 and later a "breakthrough" up the pilot management ladder to Chief Pilot in the MSP crew base from 1995-1997.

Sandy received the prestigious Northwest Airlines "Humanitarian Award" in honor of her dedication to the advancement of women in aviation and has been recognized by the National Aviation Club for her tireless dedication to promoting aviation as a career. Sandy is a founding board member of Women in Aviation, serves as the Vice President of the WAI Board of Directors and chairs the Endowment Fund committee. She received a WAI Founder's Award for helping to establish the WAI Endowment Fund. Additionally, in April 1996, Captain Anderson was honored for her lifetime contributions and achievements and received the Texas Woman's University highest honor conferred on an alumnae, the "Distinguished Alumna" Award.

Captain Anderson represents the airline industry on various aviation organizations and committees. She is a member of ALPA (Air Line Pilots Association), Council on Aviation Accreditation, ISA+21 (International Society of Women Airline Pilots), and EAA (Experimental Aviation Association). She has a B.S. degree from Texas Woman's University and a M.S. degree in Human Resource/Organization Development from The American University.
