Indiana State University

Booth #432
The mission of Indiana State University's Department of Aviation Technology is to provide a quality, student centered academic program emphasizing aviation fundamentals, technical competence, professionalism, and social responsibility. We prepare our students for a lifetime career in the dynamic and challenging world of aviation. Indiana State University's Department of Aviation Technology is internationally recognized for the excellence of its facilities, faculty, and graduates. We offer two degree programs in aviation, a Bachelor of Science in Professional Aviation Flight Technology, and a Bachelor of Science in Aviation Management.

We are excited to be hosting the 2010 NIFA Nationals and the 2011 UAA Conference. We are also proud to be the home of the winners of the 2009 Air Race Classic Collegiate Team.

As a pilot, our "hands-on" standards are higher than most other university aviation programs. You will obtain all ratings up through Certified Flight Instructor Instrument (CFII) and multi-engine (ME) ratings as well as signoffs for aerobatic flight and tail-wheel. Flight students that do their part and obtain their ratings and flight time will likely be hired as a flight instructor, simulator instructor, or both while a student of the department. Many of our students start flight instructing during their sophomore or junior year. This policy enables students to build flight time at an accelerated pace as compared to other programs. In the job market, all these ratings and experiences translate into a better quality graduate and a preferred applicant.

The aviation management degree will prepare you for a myriad of aviation careers. Our management staff has direct management experience as air traffic controllers, airport managers, FBO managers, aircraft dispatchers, weather forecasters, regulators, aircraft maintainers and air carrier managers. Should you wish to pursue an airport manager career, you'll have the opportunity to complete the certification needed in the field from the American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE). We are one of only a few universities in the nation providing this advanced training and our instructors were the first to provide such training from AAAE.

Throughout its history, the University has been known as a place of educational opportunity. Even today, a large portion of its students are first generation college students. The University of Dubuque's welcoming interfaith community of approximately 1,500 students come from across the country and around the globe.

The UD Aviation Program is comparatively small; and the instruction, even on the flight line, is personal. Degrees are offered in Aviation Flight Operations and Aviation Management. Students can demonstrate their excellence by joining our flight team, which has previously qualified for the national competitions. They can also become members of Alpha Eta Rho, a close-knit national service fraternity for those who share a passion for aviation. Finally, and most important, the professional education provided by the University of Dubuque is grounded squarely in the liberal arts.
